GXO Expands Workforce Flexibility with Gig Work Pilot

Utilizing the EmployGig app, the program engaged over 1,100 gig workers, including students, caregivers, and retirees

Logistics giant GXO announced the successful completion of a pilot program aimed at increasing workforce flexibility. The program provided flexible arrangements for over 1,100 gig workers across eight GXO warehouses in the U.S., with plans to expand further.

The initiative, developed in partnership with EmployBridge, is designed to attract a diverse range of candidates including students, caregivers, and retirees. Participants range from ages 18 to over 65, with many being women and stay-at-home parents.

“Tapping into the gig workforce expands our talent pool and reduces costs for our customers,” said Dawn Nixon, Senior Vice President of Human Resources, GXO. “For those who place a premium on flexible hours, our program enables us to offer greater flexibility to meet worker needs and helps us easily adjust our headcount as customer volumes change.

The program allows GXO to post real-time job openings, which are matched with suitable candidates through the EmployGig app. This approach aims to provide greater flexibility for customers, adjust workforce levels based on demand, and reduce costs through efficient management.

As part of the pilot program, GXO posts job details, including dates, hours, type of work, and pay. These job postings are instantly sent by EmployGig to candidates who best match the requirements, allowing them to express their interest. As an industry leader in technology, GXO attracts candidates with the opportunity to work alongside robotics and automation, which can also reduce training time. This program has allowed GXO to offer greater flexibility to its customers, enabling real-time responses to changes in demand.

Technology is rapidly transforming every facet of life, including today’s workforce,” said EmployBridge CEO Billy Miliam. “EmployBridge is passionate about leveraging technology in meaningful ways, and we’re able to do just that with our platform-based gig solutions. We look forward to continuing to partner with GXO to bring our gig solution to additional communities as we deliver expanded opportunities, and options, for the modern job-seeker.”

Feedback from participants has been positive, with many appreciating the ability to work flexible hours and balance personal commitments. GXO plans to extend the program to more locations, demonstrating its commitment to innovative workforce solutions.

“The program also creates unparalleled agility for our operations and new opportunities for our full-time team members to upskill. We look forward to expanding this program to our operations across the U.S.,” Nixon added.
